The third edition of the Mediterranean Song Contest Megahit has been won by the Italian singer Linda. Julie & Ludwig, this years Maltese participants at the Eurovision Song Contest with On again… off again came second. Nusa Derenda, who represented Slovenia in 2001 with Energy, came third. Megahit 2004 took place last weekend in Fethiye, Turkey.
Italy may not have participated at the Eurovision Song Contest since 1997, but they still do at the Mediterranean Song Contest… and with success. Italian singer Linda won the third edition of Megahit, organised last weekend in Fethiye, Turkey.
The Megahit festival is not unknown for some Eurovision Song Contest participants. Goran Karan (Croatia 2000), Sedat Yüce (Turkey 2001), Claudia Beni (Croatia 2003) and Deen (Bosnia & Herzegovina 2004) have all participated in the contest.
This year Julie & Ludwig (2004) represented Malta and Nusa Derenda (2001) went for Slovenia. Both had more success than they had at the Eurovision Song Contest as they both reached the top 3 of Megahit 2004:
1. Italy | Linda – Evai
2. Malta | Julie & Ludwig – Mood swing
3. Slovenia | Nusa Derenda – Devil
Out of 15 participating countries, Malta finished second with 105 points, 10 points less than Italian winner Linda. Nusa Derenda scored 91 points, good for third place.
