Switzerland is making its debut at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with Demis Mirarchi. The 11 year-old boy from Faido, who won the children's song festival Mara & Meo in 2002, will sing his winning song Birichino in Italian!
Demis Mirarchi, who has a Spanish mother and an Italian father, will represent Switzerland at the second edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Lillehammer with his song Birichino (Cheeky). In 2002, Demis Mirarchi won the children's song festival Mara & Meo with the same song.
The director of Mara & Meo believed in Demis' talents and submitted the video of his performances to the Swiss preselections. The Swiss broadcaster decided to send him to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. This means that Switzerland will be represented in the Italian language at its first Junior Eurovision Song Contest participation.
A preview of Birichino can be heard on www.marameo.ch.
