Just a few hours before the 49th Eurovision Song Contest kicks off, esctoday.com had a short interview with Aykut Berber, president of the Turkish fanclub OGAE Turkey.
“I began to realise that the Eurovision Song Contest takes place in my own country, in Istanbul. I am excited to see wether the organisation goes smoothly. It's very xicted for Turkey! When I woke up this morning and came out of the shower, I realised that the contest takes place in my own city”, the enthusiastic OGAE president said.
We asked Aykut how he feels about the high security level: “We like to feel security all the time. I fyou visit shopping malls, you can't enter without being checked”. He also added that with 36 countries participating, the contest simply needs more security than with 22 or 24.
The Turkish media consider this year's Eurovision Song Contest as one big advertisement for their country. “The contest shows that Europe is actually uniting! There is no other competetion this peacefull”.
