It was clear from the first press conference of Icelandic singer Jonsi that he clearly enjoys performing. He sung to the accompany of a guitar the song Nina the Icelandic entry from 1991. He ended up singing the Icelandic version of Sandy from the musical Grease
Although he has only done two musicals to date, with one of those being quite a small role, he loved playing the part of Danny in Grease, describing the role as “thrilling, like playing your missing brother, I didn't need to act that much!”
He will be the second artist to take to the vast stage alone next week, the other being the Cyprus singer Lisa Andreas, whom he has still to meet. When asked why he had decided to do this, he said with the programme being broadcast to hundreds of millions of people, he thinks it would be very safe to have people around you. He decided it would be “more sincere to perform alone and will be singing from “the heart”
The preview video also came under discussion. It was done by a production company in Iceland, who had also done work for CBS in Norway and the United Kingdom. It was a challenge for them and they were given a free hand. A lot of time was spent on it, and they consider the results to be very good. However as to its meaning, viewers will have to figure that out for themselves!
Iceland will participate in the final on 15th May.
