Estonian image-makers wish to have their voice to be heard in the organization of ESC 2002. They see it as a brilliant possibility to use it in a project called “Brand Estonia”, which will cost millions of kroons (EEK) to the Estonian taxpayers.
A couple of weeks ago Aare Urm, the CEO of ETV, got a letter from the organization which is working with the PR campaign of Estonian Republic: EAS (Enterprise Estonia).
They sent in a proposal to create a commission in cooperation with ETV and City Council of Tallinn to guarantee a successful event together.
Urm declared, that they just want to interfere in a progress of making a tv-show. ETV nor EBU, the owner of the brand Eurovision, didn't like it. “There's no space for political propaganda in ESC,” Urm said. “I'd say they are trying to take over the project.”
The councellor of the Prime Minister, Tarmo Sumberg, said that the commission is needed, because the City of Tallinn, the image-makers and ETV would co-operate better to make both the contest work and to introduce Estonia in a better way.
Postimees wrote that EAS has already tried to guide the shooting of the postcards in their way. EAS wants ESC to be in correspondence with the ideas of “Brand Estonia” project.
The project manager of “Brand Estonia”, Evelin Int-Lambot, said that ETV should really think hard, which kind of impression the videoclips, the stage decorations and the advertizing of the show abroad will make in different coutries of Europe.
“We have a bit different view on how the Eurovision should look like” , she admitted.
