The last gala of Operação Triunfo took place yesterday night, with a great celebration as Sofia was declared the winner of the programme and the representative of Portugal in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest, with the song Foi Magia. The guests of the show were three former Portuguese representatives in Eurovision (António Calvário, Simone de Oliveira and Carlos Mendes.)

Simone de Oliveira, who represented Portugal in both the 1965 and 1969 Eurovision Song Contest, performed with the company of Francisco. Sofia and António Calvário, who was the first Portuguese representative in 1964, sang his eurovision song Oração. Carlos Mendes, who was present two times in Eurovision, as he sang Verão in 1968 and Festa da Vida in 1972, performed alongside Gonçalo.

After all the performances , the amount of votes achieved by each candidate was made public, and they were as follows:

Song 1 – Francisco – Caminhos Singelos: 31.003 votes
Song 2 – Sofia – Foi Magia: 38.972 votes
Song 3 – Gonçalo – Novo e Clássico: 31.899 votes

Sofia is going to represent Portugal in the pre-selection of the Eurovision Song Contest on 12 May.
