The German arm of television production company NBC set up a contest to decide one of the participants for the German Count Down Grand Prix 2002, who must be a new star.
Potential performers need to log onto the official site at song2002.de and are able to download two backing tracks, to which they have to add their vocals. After that, they need to send the tracks together with a personal profile to the contest organisers. From November 24, site visitors will be able to view profiles and hear the performances. The online voting procedure will start on December 3 when the ten best candidates will compete in a public internet vote.
The German national final will be held in Kiel Ostseehalle on February 22nd. As in previous years, the songs will be submitted by German record companies, this year in addition to the EMI entry, songs will be submitted by BMG, Jupiter, Koch, Sony, Universal and Warner.
