Under the title United in Pride, seven Swiss Prides and their organisations have joined forces for the first time to take part in the official opening ceremony of the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel. They will be visible with Pride flags and will join the delegations in the official parade from the town hall to Basel Messe.
Eurovision is a celebration. And for many years the contest has also been a safe place of expression for sexual minorities and diversity in general. All the colours of the rainbow are well present in the backbone of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Pride at Eurovision 2025
Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland, will be no exception. Pride colours will fly high already during the opening ceremony on Sunday 11 May. It will be the longest opening ceremony of a Eurovision – in metres and not minutes – when all participating countries travel and walk together from Basel City Hall to the Messeplatz on Sunday. While the delegations will be travelling in historic trams, organisations have also been invited to join the walk. Seven Swiss Prides have joined forces under the title United in Pride and will be walking between the trams with Pride flags to show queer visibility.
In addition to the local organisers of Basel tickt bunt!, Mini Pride Lichtensteig, St. Gallen Pride, Bern Pride, Zurich Pride, Pride Aargau and Pride Zentralschweiz have also joined the call. Despite the current difficult global situation, they want to show their colours during the parade and stand up for the concerns of queer people.
The official opening event of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 will take place at Basel Messe directly after the parade.
