The 2019 Eurovision Song Contest winner Duncan Laurence released the follow-up single to Arcade, entitled Love don’t hate it.

Duncan Laurence, the Dutch winner of Eurovision 2019 released the successor of his winning song, Arcade. His new single Love don’t hate it is co-written by himself, Michelle Buzz, Sam Farrar and the Canadian-based production duo Kuya (Robert Gerongco and Samuel Gerongco). The song is produced by Tofer Brown.

About the song

Love don’t hate it differs from Arcade, as it has a firmer beat and instrumentation than the mainly acoustic sound of the 2019 winning song. The lyrics proclaim Duncan’s faith in love, no matter the hardships that may occur in a relationship, particularly when one of the two people can’t see the potential of it. Seeing that the song was written right before Duncan’s break up from his previous relationship (as he stated in an interview for grazia.nl), it is evident that the lyrics come from a special place in Duncan’s heart.

Duncan’s comments on Love don’t hate it

As the singer stated on Instagram,

There are no boundaries, no limits when it comes to love. It’s the purest thing we have in this world and yet so many people, including myself, have to fight for it every single day. Because of their looks, their beliefs, their gender, their sexuality. Because of what others judge them for. LOVE DON’T HATE IT is a song about fighting for who you are and who you choose to love. Because in the end it is always your choice to make. It’s my answer against the hate in the world, that will always keep trying to break down what we crave most: love.

Duncan elegantly put his thoughts into words and through this song passed the message that all we have to do is just to believe in love, not overcomplicate things and trust our emotions.
