All songs for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 have been selected. During the weeks between the national final season and the actual Eurovision Song Contest, we will introduce all 43 entries in random order. We are half way through and part twenty-seven of the series is dedicated to the Sanmarinese entry.

Basic information

Performer: Senit
Song: Stand by
Language: English
Music: Radiosa Romani
Lyrics: Radiosa Romani
Draw:

12th in the first semi final

The song

Stand by is a pop ballad. The lyrics tell about the time that goes by and the wish to hold it back:

Tonight
Can we pretend there’s no more time?
Let’s lock our doors and leave
This endless world outside…

But if you don’t mind, I will be here
Holding back those years that pass us by

The performer

Senhit Zadi Zadik has Eritrean roots but she was born and raised in Bologna, Italy. She started her career as a performer in musical productions such as Hair, The Lion King and Fame in Switzerland and Germany. In 2006, she released her debut album Senit in Italy. It was followed by a second album in Italian in 2007 and her first English language album So high in 2009. She has also released eight singles since 2005. Besides, Senit has also worked as TV presenter.

In 2011, Senit was chosen to represent San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest with Stand by.

The songwriter

Stand by was written by Radiosa Romani. She graduated from a music school in Boston having already collected experience as a member of an indie rock group. Since 2007 she has been working in Italy as a film and musical composer. She has also been working for broadcaster RAI. Among other things, she composed the RAI theme music for the 2008 Olympic Games.

The national selection

Both singer and song were selected internally for the second time in a row.

San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest

This is only the second time that San Marino takes part in the Eurovision Song Contest. Their first participation in 2008 resulted in a last place in the semi final.

Statistics

This will be San Marino's second participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. For the first time, the country is represented by a female solo performer as well as by a song performed in English.

Stand by is the 12th song to be performed in the first semi final. It is preceeded by the up-tempo dance pop song from Malta and it is followed by anoter dance pop song from Croatia. It might therefore be an advantage that the Sanmarinese entry is performed in the middle of two very different songs.

Auguriamo a San Marino e a Senit buona fortuna ed un buon risultato a Düsseldorf!
