Broadcaster MTVA has unveiled Hungary’s A Dal 2019 hopefuls, featuring newcomers and some familiar faces.
The Eurovision 2019 season is taking shape across Europe and today we are heading to Hungary! Broadcaster MTVA has presented the 30 contestants for the 2019 edition of the widely popular selection A Dal (“The Song”). A Dal has been successfully used as the Hungarian platform to choose the country’s Eurovision representative since 2012.
The contestants
Among the participants of A Dal 2019 are two artists who both did very well on the Eurovision stage before: András Kállay-Saunders, who achieved an honourable 5th place in Eurovision 2014’s Grand Final, returns as part of the group The Middletonz, while Joci Pápai will venture in A Dal again following his respectable 8th place in the Grand Final of Eurovision 2017.
We also see the return of A Dal veterans such as Gergő Oláh, Leander Kills and yesyes, besides many fresh newcomers.

The hosts
Eurovision- and A Dal veterans do not only return to the stage: the show is set to be presented by Gábor Alfréd Fehérvári, better known as Freddie, himself a former A Dal victor who eventually placed 19th in the Grand Final of Eurovision 2016. Alongside Freddie, former A Dal participant Bogi Dallos will present the show.
Set-up of A Dal 2019
A Dal 2019 will start on 19 January 2019. Three preliminary selection rounds and two semi-finals will eventually lead to the Grand Final on 23 February 2019.
The jury
The 30 participants will be judged by the home audience through televoting and by a professional jury, consisting of composer and musician Miklós Both, frontman of the group Magna Cum Laude Misi Mező, artist Feró Nagy, and vocal coach and singer Lilla Vincze.

Hungary at Eurovision 2018
Hungary’s national selection A Dal 2018 was won by metalcore and post-hardcore band AWS, consisting of Örs Siklósi, Bence Brucker, Dániel Kökényes, Soma Schiszler and Áron Veress. The band subsequently represented their country at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal, with the song Viszlát nyár (“Goodbye, summer”).
Delivering an explosive and fiery stage performance in semi-final 2, AWS progressed to the Grand Final, eventually placing 21st with 93 points.
