The European Broadcasting Union have officially confirmed that Slovakia will be the 43rd participating country in this year's Eurovision Song Contest. Although the central European country has originally decided to withdraw, they nevertheless agreed to try their luck in Düsseldorf in order to avoid paying a fine.

As the participation in his year's Eurovision Song Contest will cost the Slovakian broadcaster (STV) up to 125.000 euros, the Slovak delegation decided to change their format for their national selection. For the first time after returning to the European favourite music show back in 2009, Slovakia will select its Eurovision hopeful through a internal selection.

According to Alexandra Štullerová-Korenová, the responsible for the Slovak selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011, the artist representing the central European country will be revealed in the upcoming week. More details are expected to be released soon.

Slovakia will compete in the first half of the 2nd semi final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011.
