The British public seem to believe in Maltese entry To dream again, performed by Lynn. New technology using mobile phones to track people's taste in music revealed that the bookmakers' favourites are set for a surprise drubbing at the hands of the “the little known Maltese entry, Lynn”.

The ground-breaking technology, which is being pioneered by a company named Shazam, enables fans to identify any piece of loud music by simply dialling 2580 from their mobile phone and pointing it at the speakers for 30 seconds. The company then sends back an SMS, also referred to as a tag, with the names of the track and of the artist. Each week, Shazam total the number of times an individual track is identified in order to compile a Tag Chart.

A press released issued yesterday by Shazam announced that Maltese song in the 48th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, To Dream Again, has in the last week been ‘tagged’ at three times the rate of any other Eurovision entry.

Malta was a surprise third highest new entry alongside new tracks from Stereophonics and Electric Six – a good pointer to success in the contest.

The press release commented that its data shows fans turning their back on high profile t.A.T.u., and even the United Kingdom’s own entry, Jemini, in favour of Malta.

Shazam’s music director, Vijay Solanki, also a former executive at Capital FM, pointed out that in the mobile phone poll carried out by Shazam on fout major operators – Vodafone, O2, Orange and T-Mobile – Malta emerged as the favourite with 48 per cent, leaving the Russian popular duo t.A.T.u. trailing with 15 per cent.
