As was announced last week, French Eurovision 2018 representatives Madame Monsieur performed in Saturday’s second semi-final of Ukraine. The duo was interviewed, performed their ESC 2018 entry Mercy, and received warm words from Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala.
Émilie Satt and Jean-Karl Lucas of Madame Monsieur were honoured to perform on the Ukrainian stage during the country’s search for their Eurovision 2018 participant. Ukrainian broadcaster STB interviewed the couple and asked them to tell a little bit about the background of their song Mercy, which is based on the factual story of refugee baby Mercy.
The duo stated that they admire Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala‘s song 1944 very much, as the song also is based on a historic event, exploring both human suffering and the strength of compassion and hope.
To boot, following their performance of Mercy, Madame Monsieur received very kind words from Jamala, who thanked the couple for presenting their song to the Ukrainian public.
