Eirikur Hauksson aka Eric Hawk, the Icelandic hope in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, has formed a new hard rock band and is ready to hit the road. In his blog, Eirikur talks about this year's Eurovision Song Contest and reveals his favourite which might come as a surprise to many.

Skarr is a brand new Scandinavian rock band featuring Eirikur Hauksson as the lead vocalist and Swedish Fredrik Folkare (guitar), Mikael Rosengreen (keyboard) and Erik Martensson (bass guitar). Skarr members are known from Artch, Magic Pie, Ken Hensley's Live Fire, W.E.T., Eclipse, Token, Constancia, Unleashed and Scudeiro.

The band's debut CD has already been mixed and mastered and will be hopefully hitting record shops soon: "We have recorded and mixed 12 songs and if Lady Luck decides to knock on our doors, then we might have a CD on the market soon. I am actually very pleased with the result and I really hope we´ll be given the chance to expose ourselves in every corner of the world. But as you know,- to get there you will have to have a great share of luck ( as well as quality ). Miracles do happen though !!!", says Eirikur in his blog.

In his latest blog entry on his official page, Eirikur comments on this year's Eurovision Song Contest. Although Eric is very critical to the musical quality of the contest in general, he still goes out to admit that he is a big fan. To the amazement of his friends, as he puts it, he goes on to reveal his absolute favourite this year: "I have shocked many of my friends by exposing my favourite this year, and so I wanna shock you as well. GREECE – Yeah… That was the only song that made me smile and feel really happy. I think it has to do with the mixture of the national rythm and the language.", states Eirikur.

Although he did not sing in icelandic in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, "the composer's decision", he says, the artist supports the idea every country singing in their native language in the contest: " I think everyone should sing in their own language. Yeah, I know I didn´t myself in 2007, but that was the composer´s decision. It is so horrible to hear the artist from eastern Europe trying to sing in English and so many of their songs would sound so much better vice versa."

Eirikur seems to have a soft spot for 19 year old Anna Bergendahl from Sweden and seems quite concerned about the young artist. "Treat her fair – you hear me, Sweden?" he says as he believes that her failure to reach the final this year might have a negative effect on her yet-to-start career.

Eirikur is soon to realise one of his life's dreams and he cannot hide his excitement about it. On August 28th, he will be performing in a concert in Czech Republic with Ozzy Osbourne, the man he considers to be the biggest living rock legend.

Eirikur Hauksson represented Iceland in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest with Valentine lost placing 13th in the semi final.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain. I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
