Number 3 – No no never by Texas Lightning

After Germany had finished last in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest, a new format was developped for the 2006 national final. The show, which was mainly a gala celebrating the contest's 50th anniversary, only featured three acts competing for the ticket to Athens: 1972 winner Vicky Leandros, Thomas Anders and Texas Lightning. Although Texas Lightning were by far the least known act of the three and although they were seen last in almost all polls before the show, they won the national final by a landslide with their song No no never, which was written and composed by lead singer Jane Comerford. The song entered the charts at a low spot, but soon went to the top, where it stayed for three non-consecutive weeks. The single was certified platinum for sales exceeding 300,000 copies and even more impressively, it was the second most sold song in Germany of the year and the most sold song produced in Germany, something no other Eurovision Song Contest entry has achieved before. It also reached number six in Switzerland and number four in Austria. In all three countries, the song stayed in the charts for more than 30 weeks. All that did not help in the Eurovision Song Contest, where the band only reached 14th place with 36 points. No no never remains their biggest hit and Texas Lightning are widely considered a "one hit wonder". Some cover versions of the song were released: One of them was called Mein kleines süßes Pony (My little sweet pony) and produced for children, another one was called Nie im Leben (Never in life) and performed by 1980s schlager singer Nikki. Jane Comerford returned to the spotlight in 2007, when she was one of the judges in the talent seach Popstars.

Number 2 – Satellite by Lena

Everyone must have expected this song to be featured on the list – and here it is. After five disappointing results in a row, German broadcaster collaborated with Stefan Raab, who created his own talent search to look for the German performer in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. Already after the first heat, Lena Meyer-Landrut was the clear favourite and in the national final, she won the ticket to Oslo with the song Satellite. Satellite had already been written by US American songwriter Julie Frost years ago and it was submitted by co-writer John Gordon from Denmark for the national selection. After the victory, the song broke a major record in the download section as it was the most downloaded song within a week ever. The song also entered the single charts at number one and Lena would be the first artists ever with three songs in the top five at a time. Already before the contest in Oslo, the song was certified triple gold on homeground for sales exceeding 450,000. As you all know, Satellite went on to win the contest in Oslo making it even more popular – something that nobody thought would be possible. Meanwhile, the song is invading the charts all over Europe. This week, the song has returned to the top of the German Top 100.
