Exactly one week before the big event, on Saturday, May 17th, German broadcaster NDR heats up anticipation for this years Eurovision Song Contest with a special Eurovision Night, unfortunately only shown on the regional channel N3.
The excitement starts at 20:15 CET with a special feature about the contest history, showing some of the best and funniest clips out of the last 47 years. Former German Eurovision representatives like Mary Roos, Cindy & Bert, Joy Fleming, Wind and Margot Hielscher comment them. The show lasts 1:45 hours and will also be shown on other German regional channels.
Later at the evening, an hour long special concentrates on this years Eurovision entries, showing some of the videoclips, commentated by Axel Bulthaupt, host of the German national final. This is followed by two absolute highlights of German contest history: the national final of 1975, Ein Lied für Stockholm (A Song for Stockholm) and the Eurovision Song Contest 1983 from Munich.
Ein Lied für Stockholm, maybe the best German preselection of all times, is a celebration for every admirer of classic German schlager, with participants like Marianne Rosenberg ('Er gehört zu mir'), Peggy March, Séverine, Joy Fleming, Maggie Mae, Mary Roos, Jürgen Marcus and Katja Ebstein. The 1983 Eurovision Song Contest, with its hilarious trilingual moderation by host Marlene Charell and some of the oddest Eurovision Songs like 'Opera', 'Quien maneja mi barca?', 'Hurricane' and 'Rendez-vous' is a must-see for Eurotrash lovers.
The schedule for this evening is:
20:15 22:00 The great Grand Prix Evening 2003, a historic review
23:20 00:20 Preview 2003
00:20 01:25 Ein Lied für Stockholm, 1975 National Final
01:25 04:30 Eurovision Song Contest 1983
