The Spanish television portal vertele.com published yesterday the list of the 50 most viewed programmes aired on one of the three national broadcasters during the last decade; 1993 till 2002. On the top of the list, with more than a million televiewers ahead of any other broadcast, lies the voting sequence of Eurovision 2002.
The list of last decade's most watched programmes in Spain is heavily influenced by international football matches. Still, three of the four programmes with the highest amount of televiewers are related to Eurovision 2002 and the national selection which preceded it. The last hour of Eurovision 2002 was followed by 14.4 million Spaniards, which equals a share of 85.2% of all Spanish televiewers that hour.
The final of the first edition of Operación Triunfo was last decade's third most popular programme, followed by 12.9 million televiewers. The entire, three hour long broadcast of Eurovision 2002 is fourth on the list with 12.8 million Spaniards watching the show and a share of 80.4%. Besides the final of last year's Operación Triunfo, three further regular galas are situated on the Top 50 list.
