Eurovision 2017: Kyiv Fortress to hold contemporary art festival; Kyiv Art Fort

Boy oh boy, the temperature is rising in Kyiv and it’s getting exciting! Kyiv is all set to embrace Eurovision and celebrate diversity. A special contemporary art festival will held at the Kyiv Fortress during the Eurovision period. Yes we are talking about KYIV ART FORT 2017 which will be running from 30 April-14 May in the beautiful capital of Ukraine.

The National Historical and Architectural Museum of Kyiv Fortress (24-A Hospitalna Str) will be hosting a contemporary art open-air festival aka the KYIV ART FORT 2017: PERSON BETWEEN THE WAR AND LIFE. Visitors will have a unique opportunity to see and experience the art that transforms the reality and world’s perception of a modern person; art that emphasises the invisible and analyses the global change in the social value system; to discuss the important issues of what peace, war, a new society look like, and who its new heroes are.

In the framework of the project, numerous installations, works of fine arts and graphics, performances will be presented: you will plunge into the beauty of Crimean plein-airs and feel yourself a part of the Installation, you will get acquainted with the works of foreign artists, and become a participant of ‘Ukraine. The Best’ project presentation, etc.

There will be two artistic halls on the territory of the festival that will exhibit the works by famous Ukrainian artists and young talented masters, the students entering the final of Anatoly Kryvolap Award contest. The award ceremony will also take place at the plein-air on  5 May. Many more presentations, artistic meeting, acoustic concerts and performances will be also held at the festival.

The main exhibition will be displayed between the Northern Turret and the Rampant, and will feature the scaled peaceful landscapes by Anatoly Kryvolap confronted with the 5-meter tall photo portraits of ATO-soldiers by Andriy Kotlyarchuk.

KYIV ART FORT Agenda.

  • Presentation of a new Ukrainian alphabet, a typeface used in the creation of ‘Ukraine. The Best. Cultural Space from A to Z’ art edition.
  • Meetings with ATO-soldiers and the heroes who fought on Maidan or Donbas.
  • solemn ceremony for Anatoly Kryvolap Award, the charity exhibition and auction to support the wounded ATO soldiers planned for 14 May (Europe Day)
  • Lots of exhibitions, artistic meetings and discussions, spontaneous workshops and acoustic programs, jam-sessions and other surprises from the active creative community of Ukraine.
