EBU states rules for commentators

To avoid political scandals and upset participants, the EBU worked out a set of rules for the Eurovision commentators.

The rules state that, for example, commentators are not allowed to make insulting comments or political incorrect statements.

Claes Åkeson, the Swedish commentator last year together with Christer Björkman (who sang for Sweden in 1992), decided to quit when he heard about the new rules: “I am not the right man in the right position anymore”. Terry Wogan, commentator for the BBC for years, has not yet reacted.
