Since 1986, the OGAE Song Contest is a kind of Eurovision “Six months after”. All national branches of the OGAE network are asked to send in a song, which respects a certain number of rules, the first one being to be performed in one of the countries' languages.
The entries are being aired in a radio program with interval act, presentations and votes. Many people have already had a good time being a juror. First of all, it’s a nice and easy way to find out, what the European music scene is like. The contest is the best alternative to the long and hard time from one Eurovision to another!
This year's edition is organized by the Croatian branch, for the song submitted by them last year, Ruža u kamenu, by Franca Batelic, that clearly won the trophy.A grand total of 30 clubs applied to the 2009 competition, with some familiar names to Eurovision fans: Mando for Greece, Rebeka Dremelj for Slovenia, Anita Skorgan for Norway, Jelena Tomasevic for Serbia, Edyta Gorniak for Poland, Shiri Maimon for Israel, Petra Frey for Austria. Not to forget artists who tried their luck in various Eurovision selections.
The OGAE Croatia's team in charge of the contest has been working very hard to provide a perfect show. A special website is dedicated to the event. Everything you want to know about the history of this contest can be found on a website designed by Danish OGAE president Jacob Holm Laursen.
