Girlband OG3NE, who will represent the Netherlands at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine, have received a golden record award for their cover of Emeli Sandé’s song Clown.

Sisters Lisa, Amy and Shelley Vol of OG3NE were surprised with the golden award for their cover of Clown during this season’s final show of their successful theatre tour, Three Times A Lady, on 27 March 2017. The golden record award was handed to them by singer and TV-host Jan Smit, who is also one of the official Dutch Eurovision commentators.

OG3NE won the award for selling 20.000 copies of Clown, a song by Scottish artist Emeli Sandé which they covered last year in the TV-show De Beste Zangers Van Nederland (The Best Singers Of The Netherlands). Their version of Clown immediately became a huge hit in the Netherlands.

OG3NE is very proud of the award, as they shared on Facebook:

WOAHH!!! Yesterday was such a bizarre, beautiful evening: we played the last theatre show of the season, the show was completely and magnificently pictured on screen… and as a SURPRISE we received from @jansmit on the stage this GOLDEN AWARD FOR CLOWN!! Oh, what a night! #20.000 copies sold.

WOAHH!!! Gisteren was al zo'n bizar mooie avond: we speelden de laatste theatershow van het seizoen, de show werd…
