Jade Ewen, who took the United Kingdom to fifth place at the Eurovision Song Contest earlier this year, has been nominated for the Best British Newcomer award at the prestigious Mobo Awards. She is competing with X Factor winner Alexandra Burke and runners up JLS, shortly after being rumoured to be dating lead singer Aston.

The MOBO Awards show has become one of the most prestigious music awards in Europe since their launch in 1996. Their website says: "Launched in 1996, by founder and CEO Kanya King, the MOBO Awards were the first Awards show in Europe to celebrate urban music. In our 14 year history, the MOBO Awards have, undoubtedly, played an instrumental role in elevating black music and culture to mainstream popular status in the UK."

Jade competes with fellow music television show winners Alexandra Burke and runners up JLs from The X Factor, Laura Izibor and Master Shortie. Whilst Alexandra Burke has yet to release a follow-up single since winning the show, Jade's second single comes out on September 13th for download with a CD release the following day. JLS have also topped the UK chart with Beat again and are fast becoming the country's most popular boy band.

Jade's nomination is further proof that the Eurovision Song Contest is now seen as a credible music show my the British music industry and a platform for launching new careers, much as Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber predicted it would be when searching for an act to represent the United Kingdom earlier this year.

The MOBO awards take place on Wednesday 30th September at the SECC in Glasgow, Scotland. You can vote in the awards and purchase tickets now here.
