Belgium: VRT to go for partially internal selection?

Latest reports in Flemish press say that Belgium might not hold an open selection this year, as the country did over the past years. The broadcaster in charge of the Eurovision responsibilities, Flemish VRT, is considering to hold a partially internal selection.

There would be two possibilities for this, according to newspaper Het Laatste Niews: the broadcaster would choose the singer internally and then hold a televised series of shows where the audience would pick the song. The other option would be opposed to this: the song would be chosen by VRT and a number of contestants would participate in a televised competition to take it to the Oslo stage in May 2010.

Bart Peeters, who has been hosting Belgian national final Eurosong since 1999, would remain the host of the shows. Already some names of artists are rumoured to take part in the internal selection or new televised shows: Natalia, Milk Inc. and Urban Trad, the band that came second in Riga 2003. However, an official decision on the 2010 Belgian selection method has not been taken yet.
