Petra Mede, who hosted the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö and the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, will star in the new Swedish comedy-drama Bonusfamiljen.

Bonusfamiljen, or Bonus Family, is a new venture by Swedish broadcaster SVT centered around couple Lisa and Patrik, their children and their ex-partners. Petra Mede will play one of the lead roles, a divorced and uncommunicative architect.

This is not Petra Mede’s first acting job, as she appeared in minor roles is other series, such as a vampire in the show Familjen Rysberg (The Family Rysberg), and played characters in Hjälp! (Help!) and Allt faller (Everything falls). However, Bonusfamiljen will be her biggest acting job yet.

Petra Mede is very proud of her role, as she told Aftonbladet:

I think that the series brings up something that has never been visualized on television before. We are extremely proud, because we think this series is so darn good.

Although Petra Mede considers herself to be somewhat of a novice in the acting world, she would like to pursue more roles:

If I may, I am happy as a show host, comedian and actor. But it is in this area, acting, that I feel I have so much to learn still. There is such a development, and it is always fun to be in a position where you are going somewhere new. So I’d love to continue.

But if the choice had to be made, would Petra Mede continue to be a skilled host, such as for Eurovision, or focus solely on her acting career? She stated:

But if I had to choose between presenting Eurovision or recording a new season? Wow, that’s hard. Or no. Of course it cannot compete with Eurovision. It has precedence at any price. But I’d rather not choose.

However, although Eurovision itself would have priority, Petra Mede also said that acting would come before hosting Melodifestivalen, the Swedish selection for Eurovision.

Bonusfamiljen, starring Petra Mede, Vera Vitali, Frank Dorsin and Erik Johansson, will premiere on SVT on 30 January 2017.
