CyBC, the Cypriot national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that Cyprus will be going internal in order to select its Eurovision representative for Kyiv. The announcement of the 2017 Cypriot representative is scheduled to take place on Friday 21 October.
Thus Cyprus will be first country to reveal its act for the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest. There have been 3 pontential candidates rumoured to be the 2017 Cypriot ESC representative: Charis Savva, Andreas Leontas and Loukas Yiorkas (Greece 2011). We will have to wait until Friday to find out if indeed one of the above mentioned artists will fly the Cypriot flag at the 2017 ESC in Kyiv.
In 2016 Cyprus selected Minus One via an internal selection in order to fly the Cypriot flag at the ESC in Stockholm. The all boy rockband made Cyprus proud with their entry Alter ego.
Cyprus debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 an is yet to win the competition. The country achieved its best placing the contest in 1982, 1997 and 2004 when it came 5th.
The 2017 Eurovision Song Contst is scheduled to be held on 9, 11 and 13 May at the IEC in Kyiv.
