Eurovision 2017: Host city bidding race kicks off in Ukraine; new potential dates

NTU, the national Ukrainian broadcaster has revealed the format for the 2017 Eurovision host city bidding competition.

The bidding process will consist of 4 stages. The official 2017 Eurovision bidding race kicks off today 24 June and will conclude on 1 August. NTU has published the rules and regulations for the 2017 host city bidding competition.

  1. 24/06 -08/07– Aspiring cities to send in their applications and bids to NTU.
  2. 08/07- 15/07– NTU and Eurovision Committee will evaluate and study all potential bidding cities that have applied to host the contest.
  3. 15/07 -22/07– All the eligible proposals will be presented to the Eurovision Organizing Committee during a meeting. Hereafter the committee will study and evaluate the proposals and shortlist them to 2. The results will be announced and the 2 bidding cities’ proposals will be presented to the EBU.
  4. 22/07 -01/08- NTU, EBU and the Eurovision organizing committee will inspect and visit the 2 bidding cities and evaluate the proposals: potential venues, infrastructure, social programme etc.

Hereafter the name of the 2017 Eurovision host city will be announced during a press conference along with the final results of the competition.

The potential dates for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest have been changed to 9, 11 and 13 May with an estimated 38-43 countries expected to participate in the competition.
