The song

Et cetera is a straightforward pop/rock song. Through the lyrics, the singer tells her lover, who yet again has cheated on her, that she doesn't want to hear the excuses anymore and thatshe won't fall for them again:

And when I heard the rumour
You kissed her at a party
Like a jealous fool I ran to you
You were still mine

That’s just the way my life goes
Still love me even she knows
You say you’re sorry but you’re not
Et cetera

The band

Sinéad Mulvey had her debut as a singer at the age of 13, when she played the leading role in Cinderalla in Dublin. In 2005, she already tried to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest, when she took part in the talent search You're a star. However, she was eliminated in the fourth live show performing Seven nation army by the White Stripes.

In 2009, she entered the Irish national final with the band Black Daisy and the song Et cetera. The entry was written by a team of four songwriters from four different countries: Ireland, Sweden, Italy and Denmark. Jonas Gladnikoff and Christina Schillinghad already finished second in the 2009 Danish national final with the song Someday by Hera Björk.

Black Daisy come from Dublin. The band consists of Asta Milleriene (drums), Lesley-Ann Halvey (bass guitar) and Nicole Billings (rhythm guitar). In the national final, they were also supported by the backing singersAngela Holland and Camilla Gottschalck, who are no actual members of the band.

The national selection

Again, the Irish national final for the Eurovision Song Contest was held during Pat Kenny's The late late show. Six acts presented one song each and the winner was chosen by a mix of jury voting and televoting. Sinéad Mulvey & Black Daisy were the favourites of both and scored 78 of 80 possible points.

Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest

Ireland is best known in the Eurovision Song Contest as the country that has the most victories on its account – no less than seven in total. However, the country was generally very successful until the downfall of the langugage rule and the introduction of televoting in the late 1990s finishing in the top ten no less than 27 times. However, from 1999 onwards, it turned: Ireland was only in the top ten twice since and achieved its first last place in the final in 2007.

We wish Ireland and Sinéad Mulvey & Black Daisy the best of luck and a good result in Moscow!
