Zoli Adok was announced earlier this week as the Hungarian 2009 Eurovision Song Contest participant in Moscow. Zoli, a talented singer as well as dancer, will be performing the English version of Tanclepes (Dance with me ), a song from his latest album by the same title, released in November 2008.
Following the disqualification of MTV's first choice, Mark Zentai whose song was discovered to be in breech of a fundamental EBU rule which states that participating songs cannot have been publically performed before 1st October and the unexpected withdrawal of their second choice, Katya Tompos, who suddenly decided she could not cope with the preparations as well as her current theatre job, MTV took every precaution to ensure that their next choice was able as well as willing to represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest.
The submitted songs were then given another hearing and before the one was chosen out of a shortlist of three potential candidates, all three applicants were interviewed and asked to confirm in writing that their entry is in line with the terms of application and that they are really committed to represent Hungarian Television and their country at the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow, should they be appointed by the jury. "Dance With Me is a joyful, dynamic song and we hope that it will rock the Olympic Stadium in Moscow as well as the millions of viewers at home." said Attila Várkonyi, Head of Entertainment Programmes at MTV after Zoli Adok was chosen as the one to fly the Hungarian flag in May.
Zoli is a skilled singer and dancer, with extensive live experience as he has participated in numerous shows and musicals. He studied dance in Pecs, started his career in 2000 with Le Dance Contemporary Dance Music Company and moved on to travel the world participating in musicals as a dancer and musical actor. Back home, he currently stars at the Amazing Technicolor Dreamboat as Levi, at the Madach Theatre. Right after the contest, starting this June he will be playing the leading role in Contact, a musical by Susan Stroman.
His first album, Tanclepes, where his Eurovision entry comes from was released in November 2008 by Warner Music and his latest video, Velem a feny, is the soundtrack of the Dream.net movie. Zoli is a fluent speaker of English, German and Spanish.
Zoli will be working on his act for the second Eurovision semi final together with creative director Zsolt Lengyel who is very happy to be working with an artist who can both sing and dance: "It is very extraordinary that a good singer is also a skilled dancer at the same time. Professional motion and a confident stage presence are necessary requirements in order to give a spectacular show."
