Flor de Lis, a band of traditional Portuguese music with influences of various sounds from around the world will be competing on the 28th in this year edition of Festival da Cancao.

How you define the type of music of the Flor-de-Lis, influences, inspiration for your work, tell us a little about your band?

The essence of our music is traditional portuguese music with great influences openly absorbing the music of the world. Our themes blend traditional sounds, ethnic and good poems. Above all it is music that we love playing and composing.

How did you come up with the idea of competing for the Song Festival RTP?

Fromthe ad through RTP

The song you present to Festival Da Cancao, how did it come about? Was it composed especially for the contest or only afterwards did you decide it would be a good bid for the event?

After composing the song, we though this would be the right one. This is a topic in a set of songs we have composed and agreed that it would be the right choice for the festival Da Cancao.

Todas as ruas do amor is a different theme than we used to see the Festival Da Cancao, with a sound very close to traditional portuguese music. Do you think it can be an advantage or disvantage to your success in the competition?

Nowadays, the public has heard pretty much everything and they are, in my opinion, difficult to surprise. The fact that "Todas as ruas do amor" relates to the roots of our culture helps people to identify with the song. I think it can be an advantage.

When you decided to compete for the online votting ( semifinal) you had for sure goals and objectives outlined. Once selected do they remain the same orhave you setnew goals?

When we first decided to compete in Festival Da Cancao, our goal was to qualify. Now our goal is to show our music to the world as best as we can. As we are in the final of course we would like to surprise.

What do you think your song has in order to convince the public and the jury to elect you to represent Portugal in Moscow?

Our music is happy, relaxed and dreamy. The traditional sounds that compose it give you a hint that any Portuguese can feel as their own. In my opinion, our song has a very Portuguese identity. It has a combination of melody, rhythm and vocal interpretation that can be distinguished and heard the rest by the world whether sung in Portuguese.

Of all the winning songs of Festival Da Cancao there is some you like most?

I like many but ifI had to pick some it would be E depois do adeus by Paulo de Carvalho ( one of the most fabulous ever), Lady of the Sea by Vânia Fernandes and Playback by Carlos Paiao.

What about this year, any song you concider stronger, any favorite?

All of them have their own value as well as those who composed and interpret them. Whether or not one identifies with particular music, one must always admire and respect. In my view, the songs are all in a very similar quality level.
