In a few minutes, the Slovenian semi final will start. 14 acts will compete for one of the eight tickets to the national final to be held tomorrow, where they will join the pre-qualified wildcard entrants. The interval acts for tonight will be Alenka Gotar, who represented Slovenia in 2007 and Darja Svajger, who competed for Slovenia in 1999 and 1995 respectively.
Webcast
A webcast is provided on RTVSlo's official website hereand also here (real player).
The show kicks off with the first interval act being Alenka Gotar, who represented Slovenia in 2007 and remains to be the only Slovenian act who qualfied to the final. Wearing a classy, red evening dress, she is performing the orchestra version of her Eurovision Song, Cvet z juga.
1. Nexys – Vsaj za en den
The first act performs a rather nonchalant rock song. The blond lead singer’s vocals are quite solid and she is wearing wings exactly which look exactly like the one that one of the Azerbaijani singers from 2008 was wearing, only in black colour.
2. Petra Slapar – Skrivnost
Petra is dressed in a white evening gown, her song starts a bit mystical but ends up being a typical Schlager song. Her voice is a bit thin tonight. It’s time to take a quick look into the Green Room where we see a very calm looking Karmen Stavec dressed in black, waiting for her performance, later this evening
3.Lea Sirk – Znamenje iz sanj
A rather low-key entry with some R’nB- elements. Although Nicely performed by Lea not enough to make a big impact.
4. Brigita Suler – Druga liga
Brigita is accompanied by five backing singers, the performance looks very similar to the one from Sasa Lendero in 2006 but it does suit Brigita’s song. Brigita’s clothes are in beige and gold. Although lacking a bit vocally and not as strong as her 2008 song Samara, Brigita is one of the almost certain qualifiers with her ethno song Druga liga, her song is memorable enough.
5. Ne Me Jugat & Slavko Ivancic – Kaj me briga
A very folkloristic tuneand hasa nice melodybut still the song doesn’t lead anywhere.
6.Gianni Rijavec– Gloria
The song starts with trumpets, similar to a hymn which is misleading as the song does not manage to evolve throughout the performance.
7.Aynee – Zdaj vem
Aynee performs a guitar dominated, very simple pop song, that might be too simple to leave an impression.
8.Krema – Ob meni si
Another pop/rock song that is not outstanding andleading nowhere.
9.Quartissimo – Love symphony
A song by Eurovision and EMA- veteran Andrej Babic from Croatia, the composer of Portugal 2007, Slovenia 2007, Bosnia and Herzegovina 2005 and Croatia 2003. For the Slovenian national final, Andrej has composed Metulj in 2005, performed by Sasa Lendero, Mandoline in 2006, performed again by Sasa Lendero and Cvet z juga in 2007, performed by Alenka Gotar (winner). Quartissimo is a strings quartet, they are dressed in black suits, each one behind a life- sized frame (looking similar to Ani Lorak’s stage equipment in 2008), where they came out of after some seconds. As the song advances, the blond background vocal comes out as well. With Quartissimo, Andrej Babic has ventured another original experiment.
10. Tadeja Molan & Retro Beat – Sanje
A calm, nonchalant song with some jazz elements thatis rather forgettable.
11. Bjonde – Blonde power
As the title implies, the song is performed by two blond singers, with two blond background singers and two guitar players with blond wigs. Both song and performance are deliberately kept in a trashy way. Nevertheless, this is also quite forgettable and unlikely to be the concept for success at Eurovision.
12. Karmen Stavec – A zi zelis
Karmen looks beautiful in her beige dress and with her sparkling earrings which look like they are from her store, Swarowski. The three backing vocals and two dancers are entirely in black, contrasting Karmen’s bright colours. Karmen’s performance is very professional and the song is in R’nB style, composed by Rafael Artesero who is responsible for the Andorran Andorran entries in 2005 and 2006. As Karmen has revealed to esctoday.com, the song has an autiobiographical meaning and is about a guy who left her girlfriend in a disgusting way and now wants to take everything back. A sure qualifier but is it enough for Eurovision?
13. Nuska Drascek – Kako lepo
Nuska has a rather catchy entry, sounding a bit orchestral. She might easily qualify but might not have the biggest chances to win.
14. Mitja – Mission
The last song of tonight and the only one performed in English language and not Slovenian. Yet another calm song about the necessity of having a goal in life. Overall, very insignificant.
Alenka Gotar performs another song as interval act: All I ask of you (from Phontom of the opera), strong vocals as always but she might want to work on her English accent a bit. Darja Svajger is taking over the stage. Looking more beautiful and younger than ever and dressed in a light blue evening dress with diamond, she is performing her first Eurovision Song Contest entry, Prisluhni mi, from 1995, an evergreen in Slovenia.
