Tonight, the semi final of EMA 2009, the Slovene national selection for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest Contest was held. 14 acts presented their songs and the top eight were chosen by televoting and an expert jury to choose the six pre-qualified acts in the national final tomorrow.
The following acts have qualifed tonight:
- Brigita Suler – Druga liga
- Karmen Stavec – A zi zelis
- Nuska Drascek – Kako lepo
- Lea Sirk – Znamenje iz sanj
- Quartissimo – Love symphony
- Nexys – Vsaj za en den
- Ne Me Jugat & Slavko Ivancic – Kaj me briga
- Bjonde – Blonde power
These are the songs pre-qualified for the national final:

- Eva Cerne – Vse

The top three in the poll (Brigita Suler, Quartissimo and Karmen Stavec) have all qualified for the national final. Six of the top eight in the poll have reached the top eight in the actual voting, which shows that poll and results widely agree.
Slovenia was represented in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest be Rebeka Dremelj, who finished 11th in the first semi final with Vrag naj vzname thus not making it to the final. In 2009, Slovenia will take part in the second semi final on 14th May.
