RTP wil hold a press conference to announce the 24 songs that made the cut from the almost 400 submissions received until last Monday. The songs will be available on the broadcaster's site to be voted and 12 will be featured on Festival da Cancao 2009.
Back in November, RTP decided to hold an open call for songs to take part in the national final Festival da Canção 2009. The date for the show was set to 27th February at Teatro Camões.
Almost 400 songs were submitted to take part of the preselection process. A jury composed of four people had the task to narrow the entries down to 24, which will be presented today at the RTP headquarters at 15.30 GMT. Then the songs will be made available online to be voted until 30th January. A maximum of 3 votes per I.P. will be allowed. The top 12 ranked songs will go through to the final.
Many names have come up as having sent songs to RTP. Two of the most popular singers are Nucha who participated back in 1990 and also Luciana Abreu who was a part of the duo 2B in 2005. She is even annouced by tabloid 24 Horas as being in the list of the final 24 songs. This is mainly due to her popularity as an actress and tv hostess in shows for children and teenagers.
RTP will disclose the songs today and one of them will succeed Vânia Fernandes to represent Portugal in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest inMoscow.
