Toše Proeski, the FYR Macedonian and Balkan superstar who tragically died in October 2007, is to have a square named after him in his country's capital Skopje.

Young architect Filip Bogadinov won a competition organised by Skopje Council last year to design the square. It will consist of four large pillars, representing Toše’s band members, and in the centre there will be a fountain to represent Toše himself.

“Toše was and is the idol of young people in Macedonia and the Balkans”, said Kiril Todorovski, the mayor of Skopje. “Our Council is one of the youngest and for this reason we are going to build a space where young people can remember Toše. We are building it in a street which has until now been called Children’s Street"

On26th January, the day that would have been Toše’s 28th birthday, his English-language album The hardest thing will finally be released. The title track has been being played on radio stations and television programmes for six months.

Tose Proeski represented F.Y.R. Macedonia at the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest with his song Life. He died in a car crash on a Croatian motorway in the autumn of 2007.
