As reported last week by esctoday.com, Spanish national broadcaster TVE will once again use the social networking website MySpace to select it's Eurovision Song Contest entry in 2009. The national final will be held in February, after three televised semi finals. The news was confirmed in a press conference earlier today.

TVE have today opened their MySpace page for entries to the Spanish selection process. Those looking to participate in the competition have until 17th December to send their applications. From 19th December, voting online will commence and on 20th January, TVE will announce the top 50 acts. They will participate in three televised semi finals before a national final in late February.

After problems with the system last year, several changes have been introduced. Despite the high level of complications with the system in 2008, TVE was widely congratulated for innovation and the use of social networking sites for creating a buzz around Eurovision. The winning entry captured the imagination of the nation along the way and became a huge summer hit.

Various modifications to the system include the introduction of a split between the new jury and the public vote. The jury will comprise five people, with one selected by the public. The selection process will also be divided into categories to make voting more simple.
