Results analysis

For the fifth time out of six contests, a country won that has never won the adult Eurovision Song Contest before (additionally, Spain won the second edition of the junior contest but has not won the adult contest since 1969), although Russia would win two years after the junior victory. With Georgia winning, it is already the fourth year in a row that a former USSR country wins (among them Belraus twice).

Along with Russia's 154 points in 2006, Georgia has received the second highest amount of points in the competition behind Spain's 171 in 2004. They have received 10.14 points per country, a remarkably high average – the highest average amount of a winning country in the adult competition since 1975, when the "12 points" were introduced", was achieved by the United Kingdom in 1976: 9.65.
