Russian National Centre for the Public Opinion Research (VTsIOM) has released the results of a poll on which city should host the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. The capital city Moscow widely gathered the massive support from Russians, with 43% of the vote.
Moscow stands out as the most preferred option for Russians to host next year's Eurovision Song Contest. Far behind, the second largest city of the country, St Petersburg, receives 18% of the vote. In third place with 5% of the vote – and unlikely to host the contest – is Sochi, a town by the Black Sea and organiser of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
Results are not homogeneous in the entire country. For instance, support given to Moscow and St Petersburg is very similar in the North-Western part of Russia. The percentages of the two cities there are very close (31%-32%).
The National Centre for the Public Opinion Research held this poll from May 31 to June 1, covering 1,600 respondents in 153 settlements of 46 regions of Russia. The statistic error does not exceed 3.4%.
