It was night of celebration last night as Iceland qualified from the semi final to make the final of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest with This is my Life. Fridrik Omar and Regina Osk of Euroband were delighted and surprised when envelope four was opened last night.
TV reporter and ex-Miss Iceland Ragnhildn Bjornsdottit (Selma's sister) viewed the show from the VIP seats in front of the commentary box and screamed with delight as Iceland went through to the final for the first time since 2004.
Simon Matthew, this years singer from Denmark, who is staying in the same hotel as Euroband, was also warmly congratulated as he returned in the pouring rain and celebrated the first all-Nordic final since 2000, when Denmark won with the Olson Brothers. Euroband celebrated with a crate of champagne and although the performers went to bed at 2.30, the Icelandic and Danish delegates stayed and celebrated in true Nordic style until 5.00am.
UK entrant Andy Abraham and French entrant Sebastien Teller, extended their own congratulations and looked forward to being joined by the band on Saturday. Andy expressed his astonishment that Switzerland failed to qualify.
