Paolo Meneguzzi, Swiss representative in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, has now entered the Swiss single charts with his entry. Era stupendo entered the top 100 at #85 in the first week.
In recent years, the commercial success of the Swiss entries was often oppositional to the success in the contest: Last year, DJ Bobo only finished only 20th in the semi final thus not making it to the final with Vampires are alive but peaked at #3 in the single charts making it the second most sold Swiss entry ever. In 2006, If we all give a little was not released as a single at all. In 2005, Vanilla Ninja brought the first top ten placing to Switzerland since 1993 while the single only reached number 17 in the charts. On the other hand, Piero Esteriore who finished last with nil points in the semi final in 2004 only narrowly missed the top ten peaking at number 11.
Paolo Meneguzzi will take part in the second semi final of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade on 22nd May. It is the first Swiss entry performed in Italian since 2000 and the tenth entry entirely in Italian overall.
