France Television has confirmed to esctoday.com that they are in the final throws of selection for the French 2008 Eurovision Song Contest entry. Whilst no names still in the running can be confirmed at this stage, esctoday.com will be providing an indepth interview with Bruno Berberes, the French Head of Delegation and organiser of the national selection next week. Fans will be surpised by some of the superstars that are in final discussions.

The French announcement has been much antipicated after it was announced that there would be no national final in 2008. Every effort to talk to some of France's biggest stars has been made. On Friday, we should know if one of them is prepared to enter the Eurovision Song Contest.

France has suffered two key problems in recent years. Firstly, a string of poor results at the competition, along with other Big Four countries. Secondly, a strong decline in viewing figures and the reputation of the competition within the population.

France Television has been working tirelessly to turn this situation around, and last year made a bold effort to create a modern and culturally diverse national final which won critical acclaim. The end result was another hugely disappointing result in Helsinki, as France tied for second last place with the United Kingdom.

On Friday we will no if France Televisions has been able to combat this problem, which has caused many top artists to shy away from participation.
