TVR, the Romanian broadcaster, have consulted with the Union of Musicologists Romania to investigate the allegations of a possible plagiarism in the country's 2008 entry for the Eurovision Song Contest. The verdict of the committee states that the song is not plagiarised.
After Nico and Vlad Mirita won the Romanian national final with Pe o margine de lume, emails addressed to TVR, as well as posts in the broadcaster's forum suggested that the winning song was a copy of of La magia de corazon, by David Bustamante and David Demaria which came in 3rd place in the Spanish national final in 2002.
A professional committee comprising Horia Moculescu (president), Viorel Gavrilă and Eugen Rotaru has been called in by TVR to investigate the case and after comparing the songs they concluded that Pe o margine de lume is not a copy of La magia de corazon.
The songs will also be sent to the EBU by TVR for their final approval.
The Romanian delegation are currently on their way to Athens, to participate as special guests in the Greek final on Wednesday 27th February 2008.
