For the fifth year, Hungary will use its national contest A Dal to select its representative for the Eurovision Song Contest. The deadline to submit entries it 25 November at midnight.
Apart from the basic EBU rules (such as song duration and the age of participants), submissions will be accepted from artists who have previously released a music album or had national radio airplay and/or television appearances, and who have a valid contract with a record company and/or with a professional management.
Foreign composers are welcome to submit entries to the competition as long as the performing artists must be Hungarian citizens or speak Hungarian as a native language.
No information was released regarding the number of qualifying songs, number of heats and dates of the shows. However, an Online Acoustic Song Contest will be launched featuring all the participating songs of A Dal 2016 in special acoustic versions.

Hungary has launched A Dal in 2012 and has managed to qualify to the final of the Eurovision Song Contest every year since then, as well as achieving a 5th place in 2014 with Running by András Kállay-Saunders. It is Hungary’s second best result to date, finishing 4th in 1994.
