BNT, the Bulgarian national broadcaster has confirmed the preliminary participation of Bulgaria at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm next May.

Bulgaria is the 28th country to confirm its participation for Stockholm.

BNT has applied for participation at the upcoming Eurovision, a final confirmation is expected to be made by October 10, the deadline for applicant countries to decide if they are to stay or not in the competition with facing a financial penalty.

Bulgaria withdrew from the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 and has been absent from the event for 2 years. The last time we saw the country compete in the competition was back in 2013 when Stoyan and Elitsa represented Bulgaria at the ESC for the 2nd time with their entry Samo Shampioni.

Bulgaria debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 with Blue Cafe and is yet to win the event. The country achieved its best position in the contest in 2007 with Elitsa and Stoyan’s Voda, when Bulgaria placed 6th in the grand final in Helsinki.

The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 10, 12, 14 May at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
