Despite stories running on other websites, esctoday.com can confirm that that a decision on which song will be the first to represent Azerbaijan in the Eurovision Song Contest has yet to be made.
In the national final held in Baku, Elnur Huseynov was chosen by a 13-member professional jury to represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision in Belgrade this year. In the final he presented two songs, Day after Day and If you're never back. During the press conference held after last Saturday night's final, Elnur said that he would like the song to be a duet. This would seem to rule out If you're never back, which has an arrangement for a sole singer. During Saturday’s show, Elnur was joined on stage by Samir Javadzadeh, both giving a powerful performance of Day after Day.
Elnur said that his wish would be to sing the song in Azeri. If the reaction of the 7,000 crowd in the arena was anything to go by, the popular choice would be to send the first of Elnur’s songs Day after Day which received the biggest reaction. The suggestion is that a reworked version of Day after Day would most likely be the choice for Azerbaijan. A final decision on which song to be used will be made in the next few days.
