Greece:Exclusive interview with Dimitris Kontopoulos

Dimitris Kontopoulos is a Greek composer and producer of many songs well known to Eurovision Song Contest fans. This year he participates in the Greek national final as a composer of the Kostas Martakis song and speaks exclusively to esctoday.com for the first time.

Dimitris Kontopoulos was born on November 9th 1971 in Athens in a family of ship owners. After graduating from Ziridis school he continued his studies in film scoring in Los Angeles in USC. He has been involved professionally in music since 2000. Since then, Dimitris Kontopoulos has composed songs for more than 35 albums, out of which 16 have gone gold and platinum. He has won several national awards and this year he participates as a composer in the Greek national final for the Eurovision Song Contest for thefourth time.

Dimitris' first try was back in 2003 with the song Miastigmi sang by Giannis Vardis. Though the entry never won the national final, itremainedin the charts for 11 weeks. Kontopoulos tried his luck again for theEurovision Song contest was 2005 but with Russia this time and the song Shadows by Anastasia Stotskaya. The entry placed third in the national final score board.

In 2006, with Greece hosting the event after Helena Paparizou's victory with the song My number one produced by Dimitris Kontopoulos, he tries once more to take part in the Greek final as a composer for Anna Vissi. That year, the Greek audience was to select among three songs, one ofwhich (Welcome to the party) was written by Kontopoulos. Having taken a break last year, Dimitris returns once again as a composer with a dance pop song Always & forever sang by Kostas Martakis.

In private life Dimitris Kontopoulos is married and has two children. He avoids public appearances, doesn't talk often, nor gives interviews and dislikes being recognised stating that celebrity life kills privacy.
