The show has started and the webcast is working just fine. And the first song to go is the most anticipated one of the evening.
1. Jelena Tomašević-Oro Music:eljko Joksimović
The song is typical Zeljko Joksimovic but weaker than Lejla and Lane Moje. A typical Balkan ballad which suits Jelena perfectly. There is an instrumental part instead of a vocal chorus which strikes us as strange.
2.Lejla Hot-Da si tu
An uptempo pop ballad by Lejla now. Good vocals and a sweet melody but really how far can this go after Marija's Molitva?
3. Marko Vulinović- Sada ili nikada (Now or never)
This is definitely the year of the ballad as we are just listening to one more. Marko is an ex member of Peti element, the runner-ups of the 2004 Beovizija. A rather flat ballad by Marko with no distinct chorus which would help it stick to mind somehow.
4. Denis and Obule-Bezimena
A welcome change in beat now as Denis and Obule sing their pop song which sounds country influenced at times by the use of the guitar. The song is rhythmic and nice to clap to but that is just about it.
5.Negativ- S tobom bih ostala
A large round of applause welcomes popular Negativ on stage. This is a very popular Serbian rock band performing a typical Negativ song. Great vocals by Ivana who has recently had a baby. Negativ were the winners of the 2004 Beovizija but were beaten by Zeljiko Joksimovic on the second night. Tonight's song is slightly reminiscent of Zbunjena, their 2004 entry.
6. Nenad Ćeranić –Slepa ulica
Nenad is not very well known in Serbia. But he has a very distinct voice, husky and sexy. His song is written by Dora participant Antonija Sola. The song is pop rock with a touch of a spanish feel to it. An interesting entry overall.
7.Ognjen and prijatelji- Čućemo, čućete…
A crash course in Serbian grammar now by Ognjen and prijatelji, sung to a jazzy tune. Repeat after me: cu, ces, ce, cemo, cete, ce= I will, you will, etc. The clarinet is the presominant instrument in this song that brings Cuba to mind.
8.Sloba Bajić- Prečica do dna
Music and lyrics Dragana Jovanović who wrote Nevildjiva, that came third in the 2005 Beovizija. Sloba distinctly like Vlado Georgiev.
9. Studio Alektik and Cveta Majtanović- Iznad nas
The first fully choreographed entry of the evening. Female pop rock from Cveta, the first winner of the Serbian Idol in 2004. Good vocals that bring Anastacia to mind.
10.Tamara Nikezić-Nisi prvi
Tamara sings yet anothat ballad, written by Leontina Vukomanovic, the lyricist of Lane Moje. An emotional song that seems to be telling a story, maybe a little bit overdramatically performed by Tamara.
And that concludes the presentation of all 20 Serbian songs. We will next be seeing them on 19th February in the Beovizija semi final.
