Czech Republic is getting ready to select their second entry for the Eurovision Song Contest through a national final which offers a great variety of styles for Czechs to choose from. In a recent interview with bleskove.cz, Kabat frontman Pepa Vojtek spoke about his experience in Helsinki and about the way he would advise the Czech public to vote this year.

Surprisingly enough, Pepa Vojtek prefers to see the Czech equivalent of Verka Serduchka in Belgrade as he feels the Eurovision Song Contest is mostly about the show and less about the music. Daniel Nekonečný, is a show man who loves costumes and fire effects and is reknowned for the impressive shows he puts on. Pepa stated that he is a great fan of women singers, but in Eurovision there are too many nice girls so he is afraid women Czech entrants don't stand much of a chance.

When Kabat entered the 2007 Czech final, he admits they had little information about the nature of the contest. He now feels that a rock group is not a good idea for the particular event and advises his fellow Czechs to vote with a view to what would interest the European public. Pepa states he is not unhappy about Kabat's Eurovision placing as what he is mostly interested in is his career in his homeland and he is happy with the popularity the band has on homeground.

Currently three of this year's Eurosong 2008 participants can be found in the IFPI album charts, Čechomor dropped from #1 last week to #5, Iva Frühlingová can be found at # 30 and Gipsy.cz at #34.

A very special thank you to David for his contribution.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain. I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
