Slovenia has reached the final of the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in Helsinki since the semi final has been introduced. Alenka Gotar fiinished 15th with Cvet z juga. The country has been waiting to finish in the top 10 again in the final since 2001.

Live coverage by Stella Floras

The show is still following its regular flow. None of the EMA 2008 participants has performed yet. 1995 Slovenian representative Darja Svajger is a guest in the show, looking better than in Dublin.

Tonight's participants are presented now to the public, so it should be safe to assume that we will soon be taking a first glimpse at the Slovenian hopefuls for the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest. Alenka Gotar may have finished 15th in Helsinki but she certainly set a high standard with her professionalism and impeccable performance of a demanding song.

1. Skupina LangaZa svobodo divjega srca

Skupina Langa – Za svobodo divjega srca The first to go are Skupina Langa, we are treated to a little dance by one of the two singers, indicative of what is to follow. And that is ….a snippet of the song. In traditional Balkan style Za svobodo divjega srca is an ethno song.

2. Gabriel, Slovenia United & Grupa občanovKako je ne bi imel rad

One more minute of the second song follows by Slovenia United, Grupa občanov and a lot of half dressed backing dancers. The song is a happy, up tempo beat rather old fashioned though as is its choreography.

3. Mirna ReynoldsLepi fantje

Mirna is surely very energetic! Another uptempo song and a rather convetional but catchy one.

4. DennisNi me sram

Dennis is alone on stage as was Mirna. He dances all through his snippet which is a pop dance song. Not much we can work on sadly, especially as they are not singing live.

5. PetraExtrem

Best beat so far. Petra is an energy bomb performing her powerful dance song. She has managed to whet our appetites for the presentation of the entire song.
