Tonight saw the very first national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 take place in the country’s capital, Skopje. Daniel Kajmakoski came out on top with his song Lisja esenski in Skopje Fest and will now represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna.

The festival saw 20 of FYR Macedonia’s biggest stars compete for the right to represent the country at next year’s contest. The line-up included former Eurovision contestants Tamara Todveska (2008) and Vlatko Illievski (2011).

After a jury vote was combined with a public tele vote, Daniel Kajmakoski came out on top of the leader board ahead of Tamara Todveska in second place.

Daniel succeeds Tijana Dapcevic as the country’s representative at the Eurovision Song Contest. Earlier this year, Tijana finished 13th in the second semi-final in Copenhagen.

The country made its debut at the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1998, with their best result coming in 2006 when Elena Risteska finished 12th in the grand final.
