Dramatic fall in Denmark and Norway

Many consider the Scandinavian countries being among the most Eurovisionfriendly countries which are matched with high viewing figures as well. However, the published viewing figures for 2007 Eurovision Song Contest show a clear fall in Norway and Denmark.

Neither of these two Scandinavian countries managed to qualify for the final. In both countries thisresulted in lower viewing ratings for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. In Norway 573,000 watched thefinal while the semi-final where Norway was still in the game was watched by 706,000. In comparison 1,373,000 watched last year's final with Norway taking part.

In Denmark the drop was even deeper. Last year 1,709,000 watched the final, this year only 487,000 did. The semi-final this year with DQ as one of the participants was watched by 685,000.

The dramatic falls in Norway and Denmark are to be taken seriously and both countries not qualifying for the final cannot explain it alone, as the viewing figures for the semi-final are quite low as well. Losing 58% of the viewers in Norway and 71% in Denmarkis quite dramatic and only time will tell if the population in these countries will gain back the lowered interest for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Denmark and Norway both have to participate in the semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest in Serbia next year.
